We have many more tours than listed here. Members of the 71st Special Operations Squadron, AC-119G Gunships Vietnam visit the museum Sunday April 27, 2008 during the 40th reunion of their activation for active duty during the Vietnam War. 99's Lady Pilots visit the museum March 2008. Education is a primary mission of the museum staff. The History Class from Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus Campus toured the museum August 2007. Students from Central Middle School 8th Grade Class, Columbus, Indiana visited the museum Wednesday October 4, 2006. Well over 100 students and teachers learned about the Tuskegee Airmen, WWII Glider Pilots and more of the history of the former air base. 26 young guests from Nancy's Nook and Nursery, Columbus, Indiana, visited the museum along with seven adults September 6, 2006. The museum has guests of all ages and particularly enjoys the very young ones. August 2006 tour group from Indiana University Purdue University Columbus Indiana Campus. Ms. Darlene Allen's history class tours the museum. Former Indiana Governor Edgar Whitcomb visits the museum with friends on a July 30, 2006 Sunday afternoon. Governor Whitcomb and friends was hosted by former base commander and long time friend, Major General John Hoff (Ret.). (photographs by Billy Dugger, Elvis Whitaker's stepson) The "Hats & Fancy" ladies group toured the museum on October 14, 2005 and enjoyed the museum volunteers hospitality. This is one of many and varied tour groups which visit the museum each year. Museum volunteers host Elderhostel June 8, 2005. 90 degrees outside but the museum air conditioning was enjoyed by all. Veterans Battle of the Bulge Central Indiana Chapter #47 visited the Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum and Jeanne Lewellen Norbeck Memorial Chapel. Museum Director, Bob Henry hosted these veterans and placed WWII memorabilia and dressed a mannequin in WWII Infantry combat gear to greet the visitors at the chapel. Former Bakalar Air Force Base Commander and 434th Wing Commander Major General John Hoff (Ret.) guide members of the 434th Air Refueling Wing headed by Colonel Larry Alexander through the museum. Colonel Alexander's military career started at the former Bakalar Air Force Base. Kim Orlosky on the staff of Congressman Mike Pence visits the museum, hosted by General Hoff. Museum Volunteer Bruce Dalton shares a laugh with Kim. Children from the Brownstown Christian Church tour the museum. These well mannered, delightful children enjoy an indoor picnic at the museum. The museum staff is always pleased to have children visit the museum. Education is an important part of the museum's goal. Congressman Pence agreed that the Museum is growing and needs additional room to expand the displays and artifacts for public view. Members of the 874th and 875th Airborne Engineers, World War II visit the Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum during their reunion in Columbus. Members of the Washington County Pilots Association and family members visited the museum on a sunny Saturday morning fly-in. Gordon Timmins, historian of the 434th Troop Carrier Group at Aldermaston RAF Base, England visits the Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum. Gordon Timmins presents a plaque to Major General John Hoff (Ret.) former 434th Troop Carrier Wing Commander. The plaque has the 434th WWII. squadrons insignias. and some of the Museum Volunteers pose for a photograph at the museum sign. Timmins is a police Constable at Aldermaston RAF Base and Police dog handler. Gordon Timmins has written a book which took him ten years to research which he calls the reference book of the 434th Troop Carrier Group at Aldermaston during those dark days of the 1940s. More of the retired teachers tour group inspecting some of the museum displays while others enjoy some coffee and donuts furnished by the museum.
